About Dr. Steven Clark, Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery Specialist

Dr. Steven Clark is an experienced surgeon and a firm believer in implementing the latest technology. Before he started his medical career, he had already earned a chemistry degree from Harvard and worked as a computer systems engineer for IBM.

The doctor moved to Indianapolis in 2000 to become a partner at Premier Surgical. The following year, he began extensive training in laparoscopic bariatric surgery at The Ohio State University’s prestigious Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery. Lap-band training followed this with Dr. Jeff Allen, a world-renowned lap-band surgeon at the University of Louisville. Today he stays abreast of developments in technology through memberships in the American Society for Bariatric Surgery, the Society for Laparoendoscopic Surgery, and the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Indiana State Medical Association. He currently holds medical licenses from the states of Indiana and Ohio.

Dr. Steven Clark received his medical doctorate from the University of Michigan, which he attended through a National Medical Fellowship. He served his residency at the University of Cincinnati Department of Surgery.

After spending six years at the University of Cincinnati Hospitals, Dr. Clark joined the Navy. During his four years attached to Navy and Marine hospitals in San Diego, he made three deployments with the Pacific Fleet, two of which took him to Somalia. His several military service awards include the Navy Achievement Medal for exceptional service deemed an important contribution of benefit to the United States and the naval service.

Dr. Steven Clark returned to civilian practice as a surgeon for a year at Kaiser Permanente, a major HMO in Southern California, then spent two years with Aiken Surgical Associates in South Carolina before moving to Indianapolis.
