LAP-BAND® System for Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, South Bend and All of Indiana

Dr. Steven Clark and the staff of Premier Bariatric provide the LAP-BAND® System in Indianapolis for those patients whose excessive weight comes from overindulging at just a few meals every day. These patients can meet their goals through the dramatic reduction in stomach capacity achieved through this relatively simple procedure.

There is no cutting and splicing of the gastric tract in the LAP-BAND® System. Patients from Fort Wayne, South Bend, and throughout Indiana will benefit from faster postoperative healing and fewer dietary changes than those who undergo gastric bypass surgery.

Dr. Steven Clark will place the LAP-BAND® System, a small constricting device, around the stomach to divide it into an upper and lower section. Using techniques learned through extensive training at Ohio State University’s prestigious Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery, he will insert the LAP-BAND® System through a small incision and view his work with a laparoscope, an optical fiber viewer inserted through another incision. Once in position, the LAP-BAND® System, essentially a hollow tube, is adjusted to the proper size by filling it with saline solution and sealing it off.

After the LAP-BAND® System is performed at our Indianapolis practice, food ingested will quickly fill the small upper stomach section, satisfying the patient’s appetite with dramatically smaller amounts. Because this is not a bypass, the intestinal tract is not altered, and the digestive system will function normally. Food will proceed to the lower stomach more slowly, due to the constriction. From there, the digestive process will be just the same as before surgery, reducing the risk of nutritional deficiencies sometimes associated with bypass surgery. Dietary changes are less drastic than with gastric bypass surgery, because the body receives the full nutritional value of food.

Patients will receive individualized counseling on diet and exercise, to ensure they receive the maximum benefit of their significantly reduced food intake following the LAP-BAND® System at our Indianapolis practice. Prospective LAP-BAND® System patients from South Bend, Fort Wayne, and across Indiana are encouraged to contact Dr. Steven Clark for more information
